Hall Office Park and the entire Hall Financial Group family of companies are strongly dedicated to minimizing our impact on the environment and preserving the world for future generations. We view this commitment as a dynamic process, continually evolving as more ways are discovered for us to be environmentally responsible.
To achieve our goals, a sustainability consultant was retained to conduct a company-wide green audit resulting in these exciting programs that are underway or being planned:
- Green building program: All new office buildings are planned to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified.
- Energy efficiency program: We have already removed over 7,000 unnecessary lights and are reviewing options to upgrade those existing to be more energy efficient. A study of the consumption of our heating and cooling equipment is next as well as a preferred parking program for hybrid vehicles.
- Recycling program: At Hall Office Park, a single-stream recycling service has been retained. In 2007, approximately 159 tons of recyclable material was collected at the park which approximates 65 pounds per person per year. This translates into saving more than 2,700 trees; 60,000 gallons of oil; one million gallons of water; 650,000 kilowatt hours of electricity; and more than 500 cubic yards of landfill space.
- Green cleaning program: Company-wide, we use recycled paper products and are implementing a new program for all cleaning that will include environmentally friendly biodegradable products.
- Green landscaping program: Rain and/or well water is recycled through Hall Office Park's lakes and ponds and used as a significant source of irrigation to reduce water consumption. We are also moving to more environmentally-friendly landscaping by emphasizing the use of native plants, organic fertilizers and composting.
- Education and corporate: Special recycling seminars have been held at Hall Office Park to help educate tenants and request their participation in making the world a better place. Both Hall Financial Group corporate and Hall Office Park employees are encouraged to be green at work and at home. A recent audit of our 50 most commonly used office products resulted in the purchase of greener alternatives and we are now styrofoam free.
